Bento Box Tutorial
The Bento Box can be created from Fat Quarters. Two fat quarters will make 3 complete bento box squares which will have a finished size of 12".
For a cot quilt you will need 12 squares (ie 8 fat quarters)

How to make a single bento box square
The Bento Box can be created from Fat Quarters. Two fat quarters will make 3 complete bento box squares which will have a finished size of 12".

How to make a single bento box square
- Lie two fat quarters together, one light and one dark.
- Cut 2 1/2 " strips crossways ( from selvage to halfway), you should get 6 strips from each piece.
- Pick up 4 strips, two light and two dark. Place them right sides together. Cut off a 6 1/2 inch piece from one end.This will give you 4 pieces of 6 1/2 x 2 1/2, two light and two dark.
- Sew the other pieces together along the long edges using a scant 1/4 inch seam.
- Then cut 4 x 4 1/2 " pieces, and 4 x 2 1/2 " pieces.
- Press these pieces open.
- Take a 4 1/2 inch peice and sew it to a 2 1/2 inch piece.
- Press these flat.
- Take care to make two with dark centres and two with light centres.
- Once these are done, add the 6 1/2 inch piece along the outside.
- Trim to 6 1/2 inches using a square template.
- then sew together.
- Trim to 12 1/2 inches.
